All About ME!!

I was born and raised in Sydney, and lived there up until May 2010, when I decided – pretty much on the spur of the moment – to move north to Bris Vegas.

I have been active ever since I can remember. As a child, I swam and danced. I quit dancing early on to take up tennis, which I played on and off for close to 20 years. I also worked in a gym after finishing school and in my early uni days.

When I was 20 years old, I was in a massive car accident. Several injuries including punctured organs and broken bones – including some of my vertebrae – later, I was in quite a state. As a result of my back injury, I ended up with secondary knee problems and wound up having knee surgery 4 years after the accident.

Part of the rehab for my knee and back included using some gym equipment during my frequent physio visits. At the time I was going to the physio 5 days a week, and I figured that it would be cheaper to pay a gym membership and work on strengthening the muscles supporting my sore spots to reduce the physio visits.

So I got started in the gym, after being away from it for a few years. I hired a personal trainer to help me with rehab stuff and away I went – I got hooked!!

I have been obsessed with fit healthy bodies since I can remember. I recall being about 12 and watching Terminator 2 at the cinema, seeing Linda Hamilton’s amazing physique, and wanting to be like that when I grew up!! On the opposite end of the scale, I was also obsessed with thinness, and recall watching the movie The Karen Carpenter Story when I was very young, and becoming obsessed with that. By the time I was 14 I was stuck in the eating disorder rut. So I went through the anorexia thing (which included hospitalisation) through my teens. But when I got back into the training, I knew I wanted to change my physique and get it looking buff. I knew I wanted to compete in a Figure show at some point, but when I told my trainer, he shot me down – telling me I would never be able to do it as I didn’t have the right shape.

So it put me off for a while but it was always there, that niggling in the back of my mind. When I want something – I will get it. Don’t tell me I can’t because it will make me more determined.

I literally woke up one day in early 2007 and said “if I don’t do it now, I never will”…and that was it. My decision to compete was made. I competed in my first show, the IFBB NSW/Aussies, in October 2007, and was hooked.

So here I am, 3 years and ten shows later, and am still plugging away. I have lots of room for improvement, and that’s what I plan on doing. 2011 is to be the year where I make the best changes yet – I am determined and I am confident that 2011 will be a cracker year!!

  1. I just found your blog and just wanted to say I find your hard work and dedication inspiring! I don’t think competition would ever be a realistic goal for me, but I love seeing women working so hard to be fit and healthy, and it motivates me to be more committed to my own fitness!

Hi there and thanks for dropping in!
Thank you for your lovely words. I checked out your blog too and gosh – training for a half marathon – I find that inspiring!
Competing in figure or bodybuilding isn’t for everyone – BUT if someone has a dream of doing it, there is no reason they can’t! With dedication and hard work pretty much anyone can do it!!
Good luck with your training and I look forward to reading all about your efforts šŸ™‚
